FRI. JUN 26 - COMEDIAN MARY ELLEN DEPETRILLO TO APPEAR AT THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SCC.
7:00 p.m. The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center welcomes Mary Ellen DePetrillo to its beautiful sanctuary at 1971 Haverford Avenue. Mary Ellen DePetrillo is the embodiment of relatable comedy. Her conversational style and uncanny ability to connect with the audience turns everyday events into hilarious chats. With a genuine passion for comedy, she radiates joy when she steps on stage, using her sharp Rhode Island accent and deep Italian roots to bring laughter and insight to real-life tales. Mary Ellen doesn't just light up the room; she guides us on a side-splitting journey of merriment. It was her courageous launch into comedy that propelled her to become one of the few women to headline Boston comedy clubs in the 1980s and 1990s. As a young female comedian, she quickly forged a place in the male-dominated comedy world. “I grew up with women, but then I went into a male-dominated industry. I love to make an audience laugh. I love it when someone comes up to me and says, ‘I had a tough day today, but you made me forget my troubles.’ There is a connection between me and the audience. I know they know what I’m talking about. They understand my philosophy of ‘Shine Where You Are.’ Mary Ellen DePetrillo. The show will also be having an opening act with some humor from our local Front Porch Pickers. Come and enjoy a night of family-friendly laughter!! Tickets are $15 Advance $20 At the Door and are available at the Pages of Life Book Store Sun 9:30-12:30 and M-Th-10:00-2:00, Church Office M-Th 8:30-4:00 and online at lovethelight.org/events. Chris “Kid” Royal has enjoyed a career in music spanning over 30 years. Based in St. Petersburg, Fl, Chris has a history in the blues music scene. In the blues genre, history is important and somewhat uncommon for his age. Chris has played in various countries and festivals around the globe including the Montreal Jazz Festival and Notodden Blues Festival in Norway. He has opened for such acts as Eric Burdon and Peter Frampton. He has also played alongside such luminaries as Jeff Healey. Recently, “Kid” has shared stages, trading licks with Eric Gales, Sue Foley, and his biggest musical hero, Ronnie Earl. Ronnie Earl and “Kid” played together at a Hospice for the homeless during the Utah Blues Festival (2019), sharing the healing power of music with those most in need. He began his career with Chicago Pete and Douglas Watson (the son of Muddy Waters’ piano player, Lovie Lee) at the remarkably young age of 15. Hailing from a musical family in London, ON, Canada, Chris’ mother, Linda, was a singer who had members of The Band and Janis Joplin’s band sitting in at her gigs. As a result of her influence, Chris began a musical career of his own. He quickly became known locally as a guitar prodigy. Chris ventured to Austin, TX, at the age of 16, where he met the great Clifford Antone. (Antone’s in Austin was the hang out and home to Texas blues). Antone was so impressed by Chris, he asked him to stay in Austin to learn more about the blues. He continues to be a presence in music and share his love of the blues where ever and when ever the opportunity strikes! Join us at The Firehouse Center Stage: Music to welcome the Kid Royal Band!
