 SCCCA HARDSHIP FUND

Everyone needs help occasionally, and the Hardship Fund is there to help with Sun City Center Dues.

The coupons for dues will be sent out after the first of the year. Sun City Center offers assistance in paying the annual dues. The funds available to help pay the annual dues are all donated by members and clubs. The funds are not taken from the members’ annual dues.

The applications will be available in the CA Office (1009 N. Pebble Beach Blvd)

Each applicant must complete an application and submit a copy of their last Federal Income Tax form or an affidavit form stating they are not required to file taxes.

Submit your most recent bank(s) statements for checking, savings, and other accounts.

Proof of pension and Social Security income is also required.

The information packet can be hand-delivered or mailed to the CA office, 1009 N. Pebble Beach Blvd. Sun City Center, FL 33573). If mailed, contact Member Services at 813-633-3500 to ensure your information was delivered.

After your information is reviewed by the Hardship Panel (made up of three Board members), you may be asked to set up an appointment and/or provide additional information.

A written answer to your application will be sent after the Hardship Panel and the Board of Directors have had final approval.

Please note that all the information you provide will be kept confidential. The Hardship Panel does not know the names of the applicants.

Payment of your dues and late payment fees will be deferred from the date of the request until the final decision is reached.

Please note: Non-use of the recreational and other facilities provided by the CA does not relieve members and/or owners of the obligation to pay the annual membership dues or any applicable fees or assessments.

ALZHEIMER'S CAREGIVER SUPPORT LINE

This is a question for those individuals who are caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Dementia and currently residing in Sun City Center:  Are there times you would like the opportunity to talk with someone about your current caregiver responsibilities and /or concerns?  The Coordinators for Samaritans Alzheimer’s & Dementia Auxiliaries; Jim Butner & Connie Faison, are pleased to announce a support line that an individual can call and discuss their concerns.  The phone calls are completely confidential and there are no charges or hidden fees involved in this outreach service.  Please call the Samaritan Services office at 813-634-9283 between the hours of 9:00-3:00 Monday Through Friday.  Please leave your phone number and your first name only with the receptionist on duty.  The receptionist will contact Jim or Connie and he or she will return your phone call the same day.  Remember, you don’t have to travel this difficult journey alone.

DID YOU KNOW? SCC Security Patrol – Transport From Hospital

Did you know that the Sun City Security Patrol provides a limited service of transporting patients (CA and Kings Point residents) from South Shore Hospital to their residence in the CA or Kings Point. This courtesy service to residents is offered when other options are not available. Other restrictions for this service include:

Hospital administration is to contact Security Patrol with the request; patient must be “fully ambulatory”; must be totally released; No STOPS during transport; and ONLY available between 4:00 - 8:30 p.m. This is one of the courtesy services offered by the Security patrol to our community. Over 590 residents volunteer 3 or more hours per month. For more information on our courtesy services and how you may serve our community, stop by the offices at 1225 N. Pebble Beach Blvd or visit the website at www.sccpatrol.org

DID YOU KNOW? REGARDING SOLICITORS - From SCC Security Patrol

Did you know that most of US are not aware of the legal definition of “soliciting.”  The state of Florida has statutes and Hillsborough County has ordinances that provide enlightenment on the issue. For a deep dive go to Florida statutes 501.021-501.055 (Home solicitation sale; definitions.).

501.021 Home solicitation sale; definitions.—As used in ss. 501.021-501.055: “Home solicitation sale” means a sale, lease, or rental of consumer goods or services with a purchase price in excess of $25 which includes all interest, service charges, finance charges, postage, freight, insurance, and service or handling charges, whether under single or multiple contracts, made pursuant to an installment contract, a loan agreement, other evidence of indebtedness, or a cash transaction or other consumer credit transaction, in which…

There are numerous “exceptions” to the statute.

Short summary in practical terms. Anyone can walk up to your door and knock or ring doorbell IF they do not conduct a business transaction valued at more than $25 (actual exchange of payment or contract to purchase). Wanting to set an appointment for another meeting is not a solicitation.

SOLUTIONS.

1. Signs can help (“No Solicitation” may discourage some. They usually know if they are soliciting in the legal sense.) A “No Trespassing” sign is an even stronger message.

2. With either sign posted and they still knock, tell them to leave. Tell them they are “trespassing” and you are calling 911, if they don’t leave. Do not debate or engage them in discussion. Posted signs are available at the Security Patrol ($1.00 each).

3. Do not answer door when strangers knock.

The Security Patrol has no authority to direct “solicitors” to leave an area. The Patrol can “drive by” and let them know they are being monitored. No engagement is allowed. The Sheriff’s Office can respond to trespass situations; especially when you do not feel safe or threatened.
